
Matthew Chua brings over 25 years of deep expertise in financial markets to GENCapital. Previously, he served as Managing Director and head portfolio manager for the U.S. assets within the SNB StabFund. The SNBStabFund was a fund created for purposes of stabilizing UBS at the heights of the financial crisis by the Swiss National Bank. At inception in October 2008,the fund held $38.7 billion of risk across a wide spectrum of assets which included residential mortgage-backed securities, commercial mortgage-backed securities, CDOs, CLOs, consumer, corporate, and other esoteric credit securities. Under Mr. Chua’s guidance, the SNB StabFund achieved exceptional results, returning billions to UBS and the Swiss National Bank and enabling UBS to emerge from the crisis with a significantly stronger capitalposition.
Prior to his role at the SNB StabFund, Mr. Chua was a proprietary trader at UBS’s principal finance desk, where he specialized in trading and structuring residential mortgage-backed securities. During his tenure, heplayed a pioneering role in some of Wall Street’s earliest transactions involving mortgage credit default swaps, gaining invaluable experience at the forefront of market innovation and volatility.
Few professionals possess Mr. Chua’s breadth of experience across managing through the bull market credit buildup, the extreme turbulence of the financial crisis and its eventual recovery. His insights and leadership have also extended to advising fintech start-ups and a credit hedge fund, where his strategic guidance has proven instrumental. His track record of success offers GENCapital’s clients a distinctive and invaluable perspective on investing and wealth management.
Mr. Chua began his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he earned his CPA, and holds a degree from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business. He resides in McLean, Virginia, with his wife and two sons.
